Too itchy to keep using this November 28, 2009 A. Benenson Several months ago I had a mole removed from my abdomen. It left a little hard red scar. After seeing no change in the scar after a month, I decided to try Mederma.
For the past month I've been applying it 2 or 3 times a day, a very small quantity each time (since the scar's small).
During that time, it seems like the scar has gotten a little lighter, but in the past week, the area around the scar has started to get intensely itchy!
Nothing looks inflamed or irritated, but the itching is undeniable. The itching is not all-consuming, but it's bad enough that I always notice it if I'm not occupied doing something.
Seeing as the scar is small and not in an area that too many people will see, think I'm going to give up on Mederma and let nature take its course.
Too bad, because I was really hoping this would work. A friend of mine got a deep cut on his forehead that left a pink scar and Mederma worked great for him; in less than a month the scar had faded completely.
P.S. Oddly enough, at the same time I've also been applying Mederma to a different scar near my waist, and that hasn't itched at all. So I guess the moral of the story is, your mileage may vary, even on different parts of your body.
much better than bio oil October 8, 2009 Ree Ree (Cahokia, IL) Mederma works very well, I tried Bio Oil and it just did not work. I saw results after 15 days as I have extensive scarring from having my larynx removed due to cancer.
it's just sunscreen August 14, 2009 azriel jinx (Renton, WA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I work in a pharmacy, and the general opinion of our pharmacists is that mederma is basically just sunscreen, which aids in the prevention of scarring, but is not for the treatment of older scars. They also say the only thing that breaks down scar tissue is silicone, and the only good (and affordable) cream that contains this ingredient is Scarzone. Mederma does not contain this ingredient.
I am hard to please, but I am very happy with this product April 21, 2009 A. Dugas 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have always had clear skin till this past December I broke out with horrible acne on both sides of my face. It finally went away after taking a 2 month cycle of acne medication.
However, I was left with scars on both sides of my face from me picking and popping pimples. I assumed that after a month or two that these scars would fade away. Not so! I tried to cover them with makeup, but that wasn't working so I turned to Mederma.
I wasn't optimistic, but I was desperate and it was worth a shot.
I have been using it for 3 weeks, and I have seen quite an improvement already. The texture of my scars have changed, and the color has faded so much that whenever I put makeup on you can't even see my scars anymore.
On most days I can only do one application (before I go to bed), but on days where I don't have to wear makeup all day I can do 3 applications.
I have no problems with the smell, especially it being so close to my nose. Smells like old flowers or something, but it goes away after a couple of minutes. I also have no problems with itching. I read on one website that you need to rub it in hard and make sure it is fully absorbed.
I also started wearing sun block on my face spf70 when I go outside.
I am very happy that Mederma has given me my clear skin back.
only works for new appeared strength marks April 20, 2009 asian girl I used mederma for strength marks. not working for old one. I lost weight and notice strength marks showed on upper arms. I applied it twice morning and night and when I remember, guess not more than three times a day. and only a week. they getting less noticeable. They didn't gone completely , you still can see when closer but the color kind of blended in. I felt itchy too. I think may be that's how it works? Growing new skin? I don't know. but I think it works good for new strength marks ( Still pink or red) not older ones( white and shining). hope helps.
